Reminders of the sun still surround Mantle House Farm. Courageous Sunflowers peek through the damp, well-watered soil after days of rain. The soft earth beckons the planting of new crops. Carrots, Cabbage, Yerba Buena, each are beginning their winter journey. Will they survive the frost? Each year as a grower is an experiment. Documenting this orchestrated wild-ness is like writing a drama: the Villains, the Heroes, and me. The frost is definitely the villain in this scene, tempting the young plants to race towards the sun before their lives are frozen in time. The Heroes are Brave and Courageous, revealing their nature and their resilience... even in the relentless cold.
