Last frost is in sight, and the pull of spring production has started. For the gardener this means cleaning unused pots, preparing compost, filling planter boxes, and of course seed catalogs! Oh, those pretty, shiny pages with cosmic colored tomatoes and the heirloom varieties of our culinary dreams! How to be frugal with all of this variety is the gardener's delema. How to be food productive within budget is the Urban Farmer's demand. Will restaurants be interested in Candy Cane Beets? Will Farmer's Markets take sustained production of Breakfast Radishes and Perrisean Carrots? The varieties are endless, and the possibilities enticing. Growing food is more than a necessity; for Urban Farmer's it's a calling, a passion... and it's nearly time.
